Our mission is to provide a safe, loving, and stimulating environment where each child’s natural desire to learn is fed, curiosity is encouraged, and the building blocks for a love of learning, strong character, and a faith-based life are laid.
Zion Lutheran Preschool accepts children without regard to race, ethnicity, color, religion, gender/sex, gender identity, family structure, national origin or citizenship, disability, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic as mandated by federal or Texas law. The Preschool’s program is ecumenical in its observance of seasonal and religious holidays. The Preschool emphasizes the importance and uniqueness of each child and provides an environment in which each child is accepted, nurtured, and encouraged to grow to full potential.
It is our pleasure to serve our families through this ministry. The preschool program is housed by Zion Lutheran Church as part of its outreach to God and to the families of the Houston community. The preschool first opened its doors in 1969 and our current facility was built in 1998.
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Zion Lutheran Preschool is an educational outreach program dedicated to working with parents to nurture the spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and physical growth of children. We strive to provide a Christian atmosphere and an environment that is child-centered and as hands-on as possible. Children are exposed to developmental skills that are appropriate for their age. These skills are acquired as children experience each classroom and progress through our program. Classrooms are set up with activities and learning centers that allow children to experiment and explore their environment. Our program provides active times and quiet times, as well as child-driven and teacher-directed activities. Curriculum happens all day, in every routine, action, interaction and arrangement of the room.
The school is a non-profit 501c(3) organization under Zion Lutheran Church. All proceeds from student tuition and the yearly preschool auction go towards curriculum maintenance and improvement, classroom supplies, building and ground maintenance, as well as staff salaries.
The preschool program operates on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with a school year calendar similar to Houston Independent School District’s September-May schedule. Additional care is offered on Mondays through our Parent’s Day Out program. We also offer a summer program.
Typical classroom staff/child ratios are as follows:
Toddler A (1:5) Toddler B (1:5) Two Year (1:6) Three Year (1:8) Pre-K (1:8)
The program is licensed by the State of Texas and is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
FAITH CURRICULUM
Faith development is an integral part of our daily schedule and curriculum. We teach morals and values and pray and thank God for our food before meals and throughout the day. We hear simple Bible stories, sing faith-based songs, attend chapel bi-monthly, and participate in Godly Play once a month.
Chapel is every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary. We encourage everyone to attend. The service is short, sweet, and a vital part of sharing our faith with our children.
